U of Hawai’i athletics deficit could reach US$10M:
An auditor’s report released yesterday states the University of Hawai’i athletic department will likely reach a deficit of US$10.1 million by the end of the fiscal year. The deficit has accumulated more than US$8 million since 2002. The report states it is unrealistic for athletes to “self-generate enough revenues” to balance the budget. The university’s financial situation stems from declining ticket sales for men’s football and basketball games, as well as lost investments and rising travel costs.
