Fred Connors joins Halifax mayoral race
(The Chronicle Herald) Fred Connors, a Halifax north end entrepreneur, is the fourth candidate to enlist in mayoral boot camp. Used –to-be police officer Tom Martin, taxi pilot David Boyd and Dalhousie University student Matt Worona, have already signed up to become Mayor of Halifax. Be reminded the campaign begins in only a couple weeks and it’s looking to be a race full of characters. Still no female candidate but there’s still time to make a bid. Currently Mayor Kelly is on duty, but who will outlast the field come next fall? Many a crowd are waiting on former MP Michael Savage to stand in line.

Fred Connors and Family SOS

A hairstylist, a self esteem and makeover expert, he is an "entrepreneur with passion" and he's a downtown enthusiast enlisting to become mayor. Connors was honoured as Awards Ambassador by Family SOS at the sixth annual Courage to Give Back Awards at Halifax's Cunard Centre Thursday night. While receiving the award, Connors let the crowd in on his mayoral secret. This YouTube video shows Connors planning out a mural location with artist Theo M. Gardner on the side of FRED salon. The wall gets tagged in honour of Family SOS, the group who hosted Connors on Thursday night.
2.
David Boyd to run again for mayor
Twitter Documents
Raised in Fairview, David Boyd graduated from Dalhousie University and ran for mayor in 2003 and in 2008. Both times were unsuccessful. Boyd is a taxi and tow-truck driver but he's also known for wanting more casinos, and man-to-android unions. In 2008, long-shot Boyd captured 553 votes to Sheila Fougere's 547 votes and presently elected Mayor Kelly's 18 votes in Halifax North End District 11's online vote. This is a stumping outsider figure considering Boyd failed to capture triple digit numbers in other entire ridings (The Coast). He'll have to count on getting the online vote out-- come next fall. The Twitter Document page is Boyd's original press release stating his intention to run for mayor.

Tom Martin brings stamina
Halifax Regional Police
Retired police officer Tom Martin is also repeating in the mayoral race. Except the last time he rolled up his sleeves, and helped run Sheila Fougere's campaign until she easily beat David Boyd. But Fougere came up short to Peter Kelly and so now Martin's signing his name beside the ballot, vying for his own place in City Hall. While an officer for over thirty years, Martin gained recognition including Police Officer of the Year awarded a decade ago as an investigator.

Matthew Worona reveals even students can enter the race, and do so with clear objectives in mind. Worona is serious about his candidacy. Originally from Toronto, Worona now has the student and working experiences of any other local embedded within him. He is a Dalhousie student and works with marketing in Halifax. He also lends his hand at various art forms including video production and photography. Here's a glimpse of his craft.

Michael Savage still courting his candidacy
YouTube
Michael Savage has yet to enter the race but nothing suggests he won't. It is important to account for his potential candidacy amongst his courtship with an official announcement of his candidacy for mayor of Halifax. He was a Member of Parliament for Dartmouth-Cole Harbour. His campaign launch is expected within two weeks, and students only hope he will continue to speak at city hall on education issues. He was once the Chair of the Liberal Caucus Committee on Post-Secondary Education and Research. Here is a debate held in 2007 on Canada access grants and post-secondary education. Savage spoke on the bill about theses issues, before losing his seat last May in the 2011 Canadian Federal Election.
