Editors' Guide: Google Map
Go to Google Maps and log in using the UNews Editor Google account (get password), not your own. Why? So if there's an issue in the future (typo, factual error), another editor can access it.
- Click My Places and then Create Map.
- Fill out a Title and Description for your map.
- Then drag placemarks and shapes to create your map content. Fill out the bubbles with text, links and images.
Note: you can only insert images that are already online (and have a URL). So feel free to use the image uploader within the UNews "Publish Story" module. Uploaded images will have the URL:
http://unews.ca/images/uploads/yourfilename.jpg - When you are done, click the link (chain) icon in the left sidebar. Click "Customize and preview embedded map."
- Set Custom Size for your map -- it can be as big as 650 x 400 pixels.
- Re-set the framing of the map, if necessary. Alter the zoom and drag the map to re-centre it.
- Copy the embed code and paste it in the field "Map Code" in your UNews story.
- Remember to give your map a description in UNews "Map Description" field.
