A female University of King's College student was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre on Friday night after a "fainting episode" at the Young Alexandra Society Ball held at the Westin Nova Scotia.

Paramedics responded to a call at 11:10 pm that an 18- or 19-year-old woman was unconscious, according to Emergency Health Services media representative Paul Maynard. She was listed in fair condition, meaning her vital signs were stable and there was little chance of serious injury.

Young Alexandra Society president Emma Teitel said the incident was likely alcohol-related.

The YAS Ball is held every January and gives King's students a chance to engage in a formal outing. Teitel said students often use this as an excuse to drink excessively.

"Every year this happens," she said. "At least one person gets sent away in an ambulance."
