Conrad is one of eight women heading to the Olympics on the Canadian snowboarding team.

Freestyle snowboarder Sarah Conrad, 24, of Dartmouth will be one of two athletes representing Nova Scotia at the 2010 Olympic Games next month.

With only 24 days until the Games hit Vancouver and Whistler, the official snowboarding team roster was announced Monday, Jan. 25 in Quebec City. According to the Canadian Olympic Committee, Conrad is one of 18 snowboarders on the team, and will be competing in halfpipe.

"The team we have for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games is solid, experienced, dynamic and ready to compete for gold, at home, in our backyard," Christian Hrab, Director of High Performance for Canada Snowboard, said on the Canadian Olympics Committee website.

Alex Duckworth of Kingsburg, N.S., was hoping to join Conrad in Vancouver, but did not make the cut.

Conrad won a bronze medal at the 2009 LG Snowboarding FIS World Cup in March 2009. In April, she closed out the snowboarding season with a gold metal at the Canadian Snowboard Nationals in Quebec City beating out Duckworth, who placed second.

At the 2006 Olympics in Turin, Italy, Conrad finished 15th in the halfpipe competition.

The other Nova Scotian at the Games will be Cole Harbour’s own Sidney Crosby.

Updates

It was previously stated on UNews.ca that Sarah Conrad is the only Nova Scotian athlete competing in the 2010 Olympic Games. This information is incorrect – Sidney Crosby of Cole Harbour Nova Scotia will be competing on the men’s hockey team.
