Students at Mount Saint Vincent University have voted to keep the Metro Transit U-Pass, despite the increase in price.

The results of the vote were released Wednesday. The MSVU students' union announced that 92 per cent of voters were in favour of keeping the U-Pass.

Kenney Fitzpatrick, the general manager of the students' union, said that about 657 students out of close to 2,000 who were eligible voted Monday and Tuesday. This means that about 31 per cent of students made a decision that will affect the entire student body.

Ryan Richards, an education student at the Mount, was in charge of one voting station. "People seem pretty passionate about what side they're on."

The U-Pass will cost each full-time student $134 per year starting next school year, a $16 increase from year's past, and a sum that each student will have to pay regardless if they ever ride a bus.
