NSCC workers accept wage offer

After reaching a tentative deal with the provincial government on Oct. 19, employees of the Nova Scotia Community College voted and approved it today.

Faculty and support staff at the Nova Scotia Community College have accepted the provincial government's three-year contract offer.

Faculty voted 85 per cent in favour of accepting the deal. Support staff endorsed the deal with 97 per cent in favour.

More than 900 members of the Nova Scotia Teachers Union were eligible to vote last week, formally putting an end to the strike threat at the college's 13 campuses.

"We felt this was the best deal possible for our members at this time," union president Alexis Allen said in a news release.

The province's proposal included an average wage increase of two per cent over the three-year deal.
