A young woman was hit while crossing an intersection on Dalhousie University campus Wednesday afternoon.

She was struck outside University Quickway on the crosswalk at LeMarchant St. and Coburg Rd. Halifax Regional Police received the call at 1:30 p.m., and at least four vehicles arrived at the scene. The police report describes the incident as a vehicle-pedestrian collision.

The woman was taken to the Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre as a precautionary measure. Police said her injuries are minor.

Both foot and vehicle traffic are usually heavy in this particular area, and many of the side streets don’t have proper crosswalks.

“There is a lot of interest in this area,” Constable Brian Palmeter said. “Pedestrians using crosswalks should be aware. Motorists need to be mindful as well.”

The incident happened just up the street from the ‘University of Occupy’ education sessions taking place outside the Dalhousie Student Union building.

The incident is still under investigation. No charges have been laid.
