It's Dec. 7 and Day 85 in Stefano Andriani's Travel Kindness journey - a journey to spread kindness from one Canadian shore to the other. His mission began on Sept. 13 in St. John's N.L. and on Sunday, he reached Vancouver, B.C.
Andriani graduated from the Nova Scotia Community College's film program earlier this year and wanted to travel, as well as spread the message that kindness is easy and contagious.
"I think we all have kindness in us, we just don't know where to start," said Andriani in an email to Unews. "I set out to prove that, and show people how easy it is to be kind."
Andriani is still in B.C., travelling alone with his childhood teddy. He is hoping to return home to Dartmouth, N.S. for the holidays, "but I don't want to rush what I'm doing, it's very important to me."
Most nights, Andriani sleeps in his car, a small blue hatchback. He completes good deeds by day. Some deeds have been a simple smile for a stranger, offering umbrellas on rainy days, or helping car-troubled travellers.
While he has not kept track of the number of kind acts he has done for others, or the number completed by others for him, he has been noting his experiences and observations on his blog and website. He hopes his online presence will help "build a community" where people can talk about their good deeds and encourage kindness.
He plans to continue his Travel Kindness mission after his cross-country journey ends "be it a film, an American trip, or a number of other amazing suggestions I've collected along the way, I want to keep doing this because ... I think there is real merit in the message I'm trying to promote."
